Level I: This player has never had formal instructions. May have hit around socially, their reason for learning to play tennis is trictly for recreation and exercise purposes. Most children under 7 years of age are placed on this level. Level II: This play has played before and may have had instruction, may be able to keep five balls in play. They play only for recreation and/or exercise, might play other sports. Level III: This player may have two years of playing experience (high school, ALTA, club matches). They can keep ten balls in play, but does not know how to construct points well. This player relies on the forehand, not comfortable at the net. Has talent but must be more dedicated to the sport to earn scholarship or sectional ranking. Level IV: This player has a state or regional ranking, striving to earn a college scholarship, has at least one weapon that they can rely on under pressure. The player is very dedicated to the sport, plays 5 times a week, with tournaments on the weekend.
